Bombo Development Model

This model was developed to take clients from a position of relief, where they are too ill to take care of their children and themselves, to self-sustainability.

All clients supported are too sick to work and have lost hope. Working through Life With Hope, a ministry of Bombo Pentecostal Church; Align Ministries sends support to provide specific needs for the families, the parents/care-givers and children. Bombo Pentecostal Church has a client support and review team working through Life With Hope to assure the clients are in need and get the resources they need to put them on the path to becoming healthy and productive. This team also assures that funds are not being misused.

As the clients regain physical health and strength their support is reduced and placed in a savings account for them to start a self-sustaining business or prepare them for productive employment. During this time Life With Hope encourages the client to begin a micro business or seek employment. Bombo Pentecostal Church also focuses the majority of their support and efforts in healing them spiritually, sharing Christ and moving them to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

Support ends when the parent/care-giver becomes self-sustaining. If the parent/care-giver does not move to become self-sustaining and wants to live on support or welfare the support is removed. If the client is just too sick and it does not look like their health will improve, then Life With Hope will advise and continue support as needed. This is evaluated and done by Life With Hope, through the church. If the parent/care-giver dies and leaves children that are too young to care for themselves; Life With Hope finds a family that can care for the children. The support continues to make sure the children receive the necessary nutritional food, medication and health care and education. The church will make sure that these children are nurtured spiritually, physically and emotionally, with people who truly love them.

In 2005 Elaine and Don Herr were disturbed by the amount of children that were being orphaned and in many cases orphaned with parents still living who were too sick, from HIV/AIDS, to care for their children or themselves.

We asked ourselves, how many orphanages can be built? How much would it cost to take care of all of these children? Who will do it? What will happen to the dying parents/care-givers?

After over a year of prayer and communications with Pastor Alex and Millie Ojera from Bombo Pentecostal Church, we knew we could do something, if just for one person. If we could make a difference for just person for here and for eternity, then that would be what God wanted us to do. Align Ministries was born out of a July 2005 P.E.A.C.E. trip from Saddleback Church and a desire to be obedient to the Great Commandment and Great Commission.

Align Ministries is committed to working through and partnering with the local church; making the local church the “Beacon of Hope” in the community. We have found the P.E.A.C.E. Plan is a perfect model to resource and empower he local church.

Align Ministries sends support funds to Bombo Pentecostal Church. Bombo Pentecostal Church makes all of the decisions on who is supported and for how long. They know their people, we don’t, they know their needs, we don’t, they know best how to distribute funds to not create dependency. All funds sent from Align Ministries are distributed by Bombo Pentecostal Church and Life With Hope; they get the credit so it can glorify God by glorifying His Church. The people do not know the funds come from Align Ministries. When we have talked with them, the people tell us that it is the Church, the Pastor and Life with Hope that is making a difference in their lives; they give thanks to Jesus on the changes in their lives. Align Ministries is never mentioned.

The average support for an orphan child is $30 (USD) per month; for a family of up to 4 is $40 (USD) per month; and for a family up to 6 is $60 (USD) per month.

All gifts and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Contributors are solicited with the complete understanding that Align Ministries has complete control over all donated funds.
